SoundBase was born from a simple observation: audio production teams deserved better tools. We set out to create a platform that eliminates the noise and lets creators focus on what they do best.
Explore the story of SoundBase and discover our journey of innovation and achievement.
The Beginning
2020 — October
Founded by Donny Kuser and Matt Dale—two audio professionals who spent years navigating the complexity of traditional production workflows—SoundBase was born out of the challenges exposed by COVID. The pandemic highlighted the urgent need to share information and collaborate more easily across distances, leading to the creation of a unified platform with all the tools teams need to work together effectively.
Nexus Application
2020 — November
In November 2020, we launched the first version of Nexus: a streamlined intercom tracking system. It enabled users to monitor intercom locations in real time and maintain a record of headset sanitization between users—helping keep teams both connected and safe. Its immediate impact motivated us to rapidly expand its capabilities.
Coord Application
2021 — February
Discussions with audio professionals made it clear: existing frequency coordination tools were frustrating to use, lacking both intuitive design and essential features. Most software prioritized supporting hardware, not user experience, and wireless audio brands typically worked in isolation—making seamless integration nearly impossible. We set out to create a single, user-friendly system that breaks down those barriers, empowering teams to coordinate frequencies and collaborate easily, no matter what brands or equipment they choose to use.
Closed Beta Announcement
2021 — June
We announce the SoundBase private beta program to a select group of audio professionals to test our two new applications: Nexus and Coord. This closed beta started with roughly 20 participants and grew to over 100 by the end of the summer.
Open Beta Announcement
2021 — October
SoundBase open beta program announced on social media and forums. Within the first week, over 200 people signed up to join the beta program.
SoundBase Desktop is launched
2024 — January
Responding to frequent requests from our community, we launched SoundBase Desktop—a fully installable version for both Mac and Windows. This release delivered sought-after features like offline support and paved the way for future hardware connectivity. With it, we introduced SoundBase Pro: a paid license giving users access to the robust desktop experience on their device of choice.
Sennheiser Group acquires SoundBase
2024 — September
The Sennheiser Group acquires SoundBase as a brand, pledging to support the continued growth of our applications and community. Importantly, they commit to preserving what users love most about SoundBase—keeping it brand-agnostic and independent from Sennheiser Electronics, so our mission and spirit remain unchanged.
Enterprise plan announced
2025 — January
As our community and SoundBase Pro user base grew rapidly, companies started requesting an Enterprise option for their teams—enabling them to manage license delegation and retain greater control over how licenses are assigned and used across users and devices within their organizations.
Growing the team
2025 — May
Peter D'Angelo comes onboard as lead developer, bringing deep experience in audio production and software. His skills and passion quickly make a big impact on both the team and the SoundBase community.
New business model introduced
2026 — February
We introduce a new business model that lets users access SoundBase Desktop for free—no paid license required. While some premium features remain exclusive, the free version now includes more capabilities than ever before. To maintain our commitment to brand agnosticism, these free features are available across all equipment brands, allowing users to experience SoundBase Desktop on their own terms.
